New to the team: Leni
by Beke Alberring
We have found a new dual student in the field of event management in Leni. However, she hasn't spent much time at the agency since the start of her first practical phase in October – she went straight into her first major production, and it wasn't just there that she showed how wonderfully she fits into the team. Here you can find out more about her, her work and her studies:
You started your dual studies in October. Why did you choose to study event management? What interests you most about it?
For me, event management is incredibly versatile. I can always experience new things and be creative. I also find it exciting to be on the road for events and to interact with other people. It's this combination that makes it so appealing to me.
We are really happy that you are starting your practical phase with us. How did you come across ottomisu?
The answer is almost a bit boring – I was looking around the DHBW website and you caught my eye straight away when I clicked through your site.
You were able to start with us right in the middle of the busy period before a major event. What did you like best here and what confirmed your choice of study? And which of your strengths have you already been able to put to good use here?
I really enjoyed every aspect of the production, which I think is a good sign that I made the right decision. Seeing how much work goes into an event and how the processes work here – being able to look behind the scenes during the set-up and coordination was really exciting. It's also great to see the end result when so many people work together, especially when you've helped out yourself! I think it helped that I can work relatively well under pressure and am open to tasks that I had no idea about beforehand. This curiosity and willingness to help were certainly not out of place during production.
Now that you've had the opportunity to experience one of our events first-hand, what do you think makes live communication and the events industry so special?
Definitely the team spirit and cooperation among everyone involved. During an event like this, you really go through a whole range of emotions, such as tension about whether everything will go well and, of course, excitement about what you've achieved. For me, from the perspective of an ‘event creator’, it definitely makes a difference to see live what you've been working on beforehand on your laptop. The positive influence that an event can have on participants is also really special. When they're happy and have taken something away from the event – it doesn't get any better than that!
Whether in the office or in production: is there a ritual or habit in the team that you particularly like?
I like how everyone looks after each other. In addition to the check-in and wake-up exercises in meetings, everyone always checks in and asks if everyone is doing well and what's coming up. Thanks to the mini sports session, you not only feel energised, but also seen and heard. Excessive coffee drinking is also a must – it's a great way to get together and have a quick chat before getting back to work.
Soon, ‘real student life’ will begin at university. What are your expectations for the theoretical phase?
My answer is quick and perhaps a bit clichéd: nice people, exciting subjects and good parties.
What are your hopes for your time at ottomisu and at DHBW?
I'm really looking forward to all the cool events we'll be planning and experiencing as a team, to learning new things all the time, and of course to having lots of fun.
Finally, THINK BIG: if you could implement your own project at ottomisu, what would it be and why?
I think an employee event like a Christmas party would be really cool. It would be a great opportunity to give free rein to your creativity in terms of design and decoration. I would also find a B2C event exciting. Something that is open to the public and not just for a ‘closed society’. I would plan for artists to put on an exciting show and, of course, good food. An event that is simply fun!
